Provided by AGPIn a statement, the Defense Ministry explained that the intercepted projectiles included 12 ballistic missiles and three cruise missiles, in addition to four unmanned aerial vehicles. It also confirmed that the incident caused injuries to three individuals, all described as moderate.
The ministry further stated that since the beginning of the Iranian attacks on Feb. 28, UAE defense systems have intercepted a total of 578 missiles and 2,260 drones.
According to the same statement, the ongoing strikes have so far resulted in 13 fatalities and 227 injuries.
Earlier on Monday, a significant fire erupted at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, an important energy facility on the UAE’s eastern coast, after it was struck by a drone reportedly launched from Iran. Local authorities in Fujairah said three Indian nationals were injured in the incident and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Tensions in the region have intensified following joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28. The escalation triggered Iranian retaliation targeting Israel, as well as US allies in the Gulf, alongside disruptions that included the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
