U.S.-Israeli Airstrikes Target Iraq PMF Bases

(MENAFN) Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) confirmed Monday that coordinated U.S.-Israeli airstrikes targeted two of its military installations, leaving no personnel dead but inflicting significant material damage.

Separate statements issued by the paramilitary umbrella group identified its 15th Brigade and 27th Brigade as the bases struck in the latest round of attacks. While both communiqués noted an absence of casualties, structural and equipment losses were acknowledged at each site.

The strikes represent only the latest blow to the PMF — over recent days, dozens of its fighters have been reported killed in operations the group has attributed to joint U.S.-Israeli action.

In a parallel development, a security official who requested anonymity told media that Iraqi air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed a rigged drone approaching Erbil International Airport, located in the country's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Monday's escalation unfolds against a sharply deteriorating regional security backdrop. The current wave of hostilities traces back to February 28, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran — a move that has since triggered retaliatory operations by Tehran and its regional proxies against American and Israeli interests across the broader Middle East.
