US, Mexico Launch Critical Minerals Strategy
A reassessment of the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement (USMCA) is scheduled for completion by July 1. As part of this review, the Trump Administration is exploring a cooperative effort with Mexico concerning essential minerals.
This partnership aims to "address global market distortions that have left North American critical minerals supply chains vulnerable to disruptions," stated Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
Greer described the announcement with Mexico as an "action plan" set to be executed over the next 60 days.
The strategy envisions a coordinated essential mineral stockpile, alongside harmonized mining, processing, and trading regulations between the two nations. It also anticipates alignment of investments, geological surveys, and rapid responses to supply chain interruptions.
While the precise components of the plan will be finalized later, the US and Mexico plan to initially focus on a limited selection of critical minerals.
